How can i save to buy a house?

May 14

Does anyone out there have any ideas on how I can save to buy a house?

I was thinking of going with the income breakdown of “Save 10%, Use 20% for debt payments, Live on 70%” guideline that I found while purusing the Internet. (I can’t remember which site it was)

My debt is currently over $900, but has manageable payments so 20% of my monthly income would suit that fine. Does anyone have a better way to save?

I am looking to have a home by the next year or two, but I am worried that the housing prices will increase again. Currently, houses in our area start at $43000 and are pretty decent starter homes.

I wish there was some type of funding available for off-reserve first nations people to buy a house. I know there’s a down payment assistance program out there but I would hate to run up more debt.
